POST 2
The majority of sources applied to this research question, deal with an examination of the amount of exposure teenagers have to television. This pattern is important to study because in many cases the T.V. is the primary source of media interaction that teenagers experience. It is expected that the higher the level of T.V. exposure, than the more susceptiable a teenager is to the effects of the media. Furthermore, the more influence the media has, than the more likely a teenager's views will mirror those that are expressed by the media. As a result, the high percentage of television that is dedicated to scenes of sex, could lead to more sexual behavior amongst teenage viewers. As expected, the research gathered supports the correlation between higher exposure to sexual media and hastened initiation of sexual activity in teens. The research for this project revealed interesting information about the content of the media. For example, there is an overwhelming amount of allusions, images, or references to sex on the television. Not only, do most television shows focus on sexual content, but so do commercials. This indicates how heavily the media is saturated with sexual content.
Introduction
This blog explores the research question of how portrayals of sex and drugs in the media affects the viewpoint female teenagers take towards sex and drugs in their own personal life. The relationship between the media and its audience is a very critical and delicate subject of study. The media plays a proliferate role on people's daily lives. Therefor since the media is unavoidable, it is important for researchers to identify what influences it may have on society. The media is an enjoyable luxury, however if it is causing negative effects such as increased teen pregnancy's and drug use, that alternatives solutions must be found. This research question will be addressed by researching previous studies that have examined possible media effects and audience reactions that have resulted from a direct interaction with the media. The results from previous experiments and analyses of media content, will then be compiled and examined to determine the answer to this research question.
